      Hi!

When I was about 5, I was running ahead of my parents through a “Winter Gardens” at a park near where I lived. It’s kind of like a really, really big greenhouse that has all sorts of rare and exotic plants (and some small animals) in it all year round.

I had ran round a corner, and there was a small pool of water that had several rocks and around 10 terrapins (small turtles) in it. I had never seen terrapins before, so I leaned in to touch one of them… and I fell right in to the water! The water absolutely freezing, and I couldn’t speak! Luckily, I was wearing a big puffy jacket, so I ended up floating on my back. A few seconds later my parents came round the corner and pulled me out the water. I was cold and shocked to say the least!

The ironic thing was that my favourite TV program at the time was Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles!

My parents have never let me forget this story…

I was inspecting a bridge one night, as we had had to close the road in order for my team to use a cherry picker to get right up underneath the bridge and measure the steel girders. Now as I am sure you have seen, pigeons love to nest in the alcoves of bridges. Well I was reaching into this dark alcove, trying to shine my torch in around my arm to see what I was doing when the bridge started squawking. Or rather a very unhappy pigeon did. I pulled my arm out and this poor bird came flapping out, very disgruntled that I had disturbed his sleep. It gave me quite a shock but the pigeon showed his annoyance by leaving a little “present” on the sleeve of my jacket.

My team said it was very funny watching me get told off by a pigeon while I was quite a few metres off the ground.

      Hi Kiana,

When I was at school and about 16/17 went on a rugby tour to Ireland. When we were on the coach to Ireland, my ‘friends’ were saying ‘have you got your passport?’ I didn’t and I didn’t know that you didn’t need one so I was really worried that they would have to leave me behind, I ended up having to hide in the toilet to get on board the ferry and then once on the ferry I had to hide on in the toilet on the ferry. About 30 minutes later a loud speaker announcement was made by the ferrys captain…’Could Peter Symons please report to the front desk!’ This had me really worried as I thought they would have to throw me off. When I got to the front desk all the Rubgy team with big smiles on there faces, I knew then i had been stitched up! I didnt find it funny at the time but when I look back it was all good Banter and can laugh about it!
