      Hi!

I think one of the most interesting things about my job is the variety of the work.

I tend to work on many projects in a year, which means that my days are varied. I get involved in the design of new things, the analysis of existing things, and I also get involved in deciding how best to dismantle what has come to the end of its life.

Through these different tasks, I’ve been able to work with aspects of mechanical engineering, civil engineering, controls engineering and chemical engineering. I’ve looked at electrical circuits, the strength of oil rigs, the behaviour of pipelines and how oil flows through a pipe.

These are all very different things – which makes it especially fun to learn about! At the end of the day, if you are an engineer that is willing to learn, there is a LOT of knowledge that you can pick up in a short space of time!

Same as Neil, the variety of my job is definitely the best part. I love how every day I have a new challenge to conquer and that I can get home at the end of the day with real job satisfaction, knowing that my work has made a real difference in the world.

I’ve also learnt so much and know I will keep learning, as all the variety in my work means there is always new things to learn.

Even without seeing the others answers I was going to put the variety of the work. I think this is probably the nature of engineering consultancies, like Atkins (who I used to work for) and my current employer. You tend to have a few different project which you are working on at the same time, which keeps life interesting! It can also be pretty stressful when and if they all have deadlines approaching at the same time!
