      Hi cal_wba_coyb!

      One of my favourites is something called a “mass flow dredger”. It’s basically like a really big leaf blower that is used subsea to move soil out the way.. except is takes-in and fires-out water as opposed to air! 😀

      You may want to use it if you are “trench-and-burying” a pipeline (i.e. making a trench, putting the pipe in, then covering it with the soil you removed), for example. .. or if the pipe is “spanning” between two points on the seabed (imagine laying a hose down on a rocky beach).

      Hi Cal,

      I’m going to go for a really boring and specific answer, but it’s a software tool I use called ASCE (Assured Safety Case Editor). It allows me to present a safety argument in pictures (which I find the most useful).

      If it wasn’t ASCE it would have to be a hammer #pleasehammerdon’thurtem!

      Not necessarily a tool, but something I am always looking out for is the big yellow train. It travels all round the rail network of mainland UK, and takes measurements on the track. It’s really useful for maintaining our rails – also it’s a bright yellow train!
